What are the benefits of the new Memrise?
This experience encompasses all 3 legs of our pedagogical stool: Learn, Immerse and Communicate. You can read more about what this means here, but in short, users will get to explore the following 3 sections of Memrise:
Learn: First, we teach you vocabulary that you’re actually going to use. Not only because we've handpicked everyday phrases spoken by real locals, but because we allow you to select from a list of topics and scenarios that interest you.
Immerse: Next, we show you that language in real-life contexts, through immersive videos.
Communicate: Finally, you use what you’ve learned to practice conversing confidently with MemBot, our AI Chatbot (powered by GPT3.5).
We believe this method will have you acquiring a language faster than ever!
How can I join?
We've had to temporarily stop users moving to the new experience while we iron out some problems faced by users that have already been migrated. If you would like to be opted into the New Memrise, please submit your email via this form and we will switch your account as soon as we can.
Can I opt out?
It is no longer possible to revert to the old experience in the Android and iOS apps.
As of 2nd April 2024, it is no longer be possible to revert to the old experience on the website.
Changes if you join the new Memrise
If you opt into the new Memrise experience from the Classic experience, you will see some differences:
- The new experience allows you to store your learning inside in one language, instead of split over individual courses.
- Each language is split into Scenarios, which allow you to focus on a single topic that interests you. You may see some completed Scenarios when joining, as the system records which items you have already learnt in Classic.
- There are no limited modes. Instead, users have the option to unlock all scenarios, videos and conversations (as well as disable ads) by signing up to Memrise Pro.
- Learn with Locals no longer exists as a standalone mode, but you can watch real-life native speaker content by visiting the Videos tab! You will also still see the Learn with Locals videos within Learn and Review sessions.
- We don't have Pronunciation mode as we did in the Classic experience, but you can still practice speaking with MemBot! Head to the Conversations tab and select a conversation. From there, use the microphone option to practice your pronunciation 🙂
- Practice experiences currently rely on cloud-based tools that require an internet connection. As such, there is no offline mode in the new experience.
- iOS users will no longer see the Explore feature.
- Only Memrise’s official content is supported at this time. To continue any community-created courses, please go to https://community-courses.memrise.com/signin.
How do I give feedback?
We'd love to hear your feedback so we can continue to work on improvements that matter to you, so we've created a survey with a few quick questions. It shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to complete 🙂
If you use Memrise on an iOS device, take the survey here.
